Some basic PCI requirements Merchants should follow

• Install and maintain authentic firewall configurations to protect data.
• Track and monitor all network access.
• Track and monitor all cardholder data access.
• Assign unique ID login for all network users.
• Do not use vendor supplied default pass codes.
• Restrict access to network data on a "need to know basis."
• Merchants must complete an annual self-assessment form.
• Merchant must perform and pass quarterly vulnerability testing from a reputable vendor.
